Winding or Burping is more or less what it sounds like but to a wee baby they haven't had the time to get rid of the wind themselves and will literally scream the house down due to it.
There are different methods none are absolute as every baby is differnt.
My Ellis when I wind him seems to take to me sitting him on my knee (lift him up in the air gently first) then keeping him sitting straight rub his back carefull now you dont need to apply pressure rub then pat the back 3 to 5 time then repeat until you get the burp!¬> Dont think your done at one burp keep going and if possible stop cuddle then repeat the process, it pays dividends beleive me!
It's really important that you support them they have a tendancy to riggle/jerk so when doing this make sure you rest their chin in the cup of your hand with thumb on one shoulder and fingers on the other whilst leaning them slightly forward. Keep in mind that the hand you are using for the rubbing there back is part of the support mechanism aswell so dont take it away.
Other tip is a product such as "Infocol" or "Gripewater" check your doctor or Pharmisist/Chemist we use "Infocol" he likes the taste later you can dab his passifier/dummy in it just a wee drop as they love the taste of it, help get them settled.
